Christmas Part I: Why We Celebrate

The holiday season is here and I am thriving. Every season is one to be celebrated, but I have a soft spot for the joy the holiday season brings. I am fond of Thanksgiving, however my true love is Christmas: the music, decorations and traditions are something I look forward to every year.

Waking up to Christmas lights always brings about a sense of nostalgia for me. I have very fond memories of my dad waking me up in elementary school and whispering, "Come on get up, only 5 more days until Christmas break." My 7-year-old self would stroll down the hallway and be met with Christmas lights twinkling and feel like everything was going to be okay.

Now as an adult, I know it is not Christmas lights that solve the worlds problems, but the light of Christ. This year I really want to learn to create balance. It's not about food, parties and gifts. Ultimately, Christmas represents the precious gift God so graciously gave to the world: Jesus. I want Him to be at the forefront of all of my celebrations.

I challenge you to make this holiday season about spiritual growth. Give, love, and show kindness. While the holidays are a joyous time for many of us, for others it's nothing but a reminder of pain. So, that co-worker that has no family, invite them over for Thanksgiving dinner. The friend who can't afford to buy any gifts for their children, help them out if you can.

Let this season be a season of giving.

Prayer:

Father, help me to remember what this season is really about and never let me forget the sacrifices You have made for me. Show me the people in my life that need to receive Your love and use me as a vessel to show that love.

Amen.

Much love,

Tori
