While sitting at a traffic light earlier this week, I had this thought, "Most people don't question traffic laws, because we all know it is best for us to follow them." We know these laws are put in place to protect us and there could be serious consequences for not following them. Disobeying these laws could cost us financially, physically, mentally or even emotionally. So, we don't even second guess it, obeying the law becomes second nature, the light is red we stop, the light is green we go.
It is through this lens that I look at Gods law. When I was younger, I use to believe He was just spoiling all of the fun. However, as I have matured in my walk, I now see that God is only protecting me from myself. He instructs us to refrain from sex until marriage because of the emotional damage pre-martial sex can bring. He instructs me not to be drunk because He knows it will alter my decision making and can cause me to make choices I will later regret. He instructs me not to gossip because it can ruin healthy relationships in my life.
Again, this is the lens I view His laws through. I am not declaring it biblical fact. But, in my heart, I believe God is good, His laws are good and that He loves me. His laws are put in place to draw my heart closer to Him, protect me and to insure I am the best and healthiest version of myself in all aspects (emotionally, mentally and physically).
God desires for us to be whole and His laws help us reach that wholeness. Let's make 2020 the year of making God's law second nature.
Galatians 2:20 NIV
"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
Much love,
Victoria
