Sharing a Bedroom with your Child

Sharing a space with your child can be super frustrating, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. We currently only have a queen size bed in our room because my little one refuses to sleep in her own bed. So, I made the decision to ditch her twin bed for the sake of space. It was serving no purpose anyways, right?

While the goal is to have to a house soon, we aren't quite there yet. Therefore, I am learning to be content with my current situation, like Paul mentions in Philippians. So, this weeks lessons in contentment is accepting the fact that I am sharing a room with my daughter and to make the absolute most of it. It is annoying at times but, I know this season will pass and I will be reminiscing on the days when my little girl loved to snuggle with me.

So, here is to making the most of it!

Creating a place that I can retreat to, that feels inspiring and well organized is important to me. It is not always easy to accomplish with stuffed animals and Peppa Pig peering out from every corner. But, I think I've figured it out and I am happy to share what I've discovered with you.

Here are some tips to make your room still feel "adult", while having a 5 year old inhabiting it:

1.Make hidden storage your new BFF

  • Bookshelves with storage bins

  • Storage containers to keep toys hidden under your bed

2. Display Pictures of the both of you

  • While I love abstract and typography art, displaying pictures of my daughter and I makes it feel like her room too.

3. Decorative Baskets

  • My daughter loves stuffed animals. Decorative baskets are the perfect, stylish way to organize them, while still giving her easy access to retrieve them at any time.

4. Keep things light

  • If your child is anything like mine, she is up as soon as the sun rises. Choosing light colored curtains was the perfect choice for us because it makes day and night easy to distinguish.

  • If your child is a night-owl, completely ignore that advice lol

*Pro Tip: Make your bed every morning!

Happy Decorating,

Victoria
