Teaching your child what it looks like to have a relationship with God is necessary and essential.
If you don't know where to start, try praying for them in the car on the way to school, as you are getting them ready for school, or every night before bed. Our children will follow our lead, so it is imperative to make sure we are leading them in the right direction.
"Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it."
-Proverbs 22:6 NLT
Praying every morning has been effective for Emrie and I because it has helped her make prayer apart of her daily routine.
Here are some of my tips on helping infuse Jesus into your child's life:
1. Watch their daily intake: What are they watching and listening to?
2. Make praise and worship music apart of their daily life
3. Read the bible with them everyday
4. Let them see you spending time with God
5. Find a church and get your kids involved in the children and youth ministries
6. Most importantly: Teach your children about grace, ensure they know God loves them and that His love is not something they have to earn. Make sure they know God loves them for exactly who they are.
Covering our children in prayer sets them up for success in every area of life.
Before School Prayer:
Father thank you so much for this wonderful day, I pray that Emrie has a marvelous day at school today. I ask that she will find favor with teachers and students alike. I pray that Your hand of protection will be on her and guide her. May Your spirit shine so bright on the inside of her that other people will come to know You because of it. Protect the faculty, staff and students at her school district and in every surrounding area school district. Father may Your hand of protection be upon everyone connected to these students. In the name of Jesus, amen.
Prayer for Parents/Guardians:
Father, I ask that You continue to guide us in raising our children, in ways that are pleasing to You. Help us to demonstrate Your love to them. May they always know that You love them, not because of what they do, but because of who You are.
In Jesus name, amen.
I'll leave you with this:
During baby dedications one Sunday, I heard my Pastor pray this, "Father, may this child be wise in You and ignorant to the ways of the world". That little excerpt from his prayer has always stuck with me. I hope you now pray it over your children every day.
Much love,
Tori
