Ahmaud Arbery - Past time to wake up

Writer's picture: Farren Fontenot Farren Fontenot

We live in a nation where Black men, like Ahmaud Arbery, can face a myriad of threats, so many of which are rooted in the evil of racism. Our skin color, an attribute that God intricately designed for us, has been manipulated by man to make us seem less than human, and to give folks a reason to look the other away when we’re killed. But it’s time to wake up. To educate folks even when it’s uncomfortable, and to challenge what we’re taught when we know it’s wrong. A LEGACY of racism killed Ahmaud Arbery. It was passed down, taught, nurtured, and ultimately used in the enemy’s plan. I fully believe God will turn all of this unbearable pain for His good, because that’s what He promises us. But WE’RE the way in which He accomplishes that, using His power on the inside of us to wreck the very foundation of this nation that has existed to keep us divided. Which means we have to wake up and confront the reality that racism isn’t over, that this evil still costs lives, that we are failing in our calling as the church when we ignore this wickedness. We have to wake up y’all. It’s past time to be who God has called us to be.
